Carbon Mapper is a non-profit organization with a public-good mission to detect, pinpoint, quantify and track 80% of the world’s methane and carbon dioxide (CO2) point source emissions. Our mission is to aid in the acceleration of climate mitigation efforts globally at the scale of individual facilities. The Carbon Mapper public-private partnership includes Planet Labs, Inc., the California Air Resources Board, the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL).
Carbon Mapper uses advanced imaging spectroscopy remote sensing on satellites and airborne assets to detect and analyze methane and carbon dioxide emissions around the world and provide information data products to inform decision makers as well as the general public. As part of its public education and research support activities, Carbon Mapper will provide a global open data portal, including a data trust and a website offering rapid visualization and interpretation for both expert and non-expert audiences. Carbon Mapper also supports advances in science algorithms, machine learning, and big data for remote sensing through multi-source analytics, cloud computing, open-source development, and geospatial analytics.
Position Summary
Carbon Mapper is hiring a Development Coordinator/Associate. Reporting to the Director of Development, this person will be responsible supporting the development and fundraising program that enables between Carbon Mapper to fulfill its mission.
In this full-time position, the successful individual will play a key role in supporting the Development team. The ideal candidate will have strong project management skills and will provide strategic and administrative support and will assist with the execution and management of donor engagement and communication strategies to achieve fundraising goals.
The successful candidate will balance independent initiative with effective collaboration across Development and the organization and is an ideal position for early career growth in philanthropy. The successful candidate will be resourceful, possess a flexible and adaptive growth mindset with pro-active ambition, and will have a passion for contributing to the mission of a non-profit start up that is focused on addressing the effects of climate change. The position reports to the Director of Development and will be a valued member of an experienced and supportive team that is committed to collaboration, continuous learning, professional development, and improvement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide support to Development Director with calendar management, coordinating virtual and in-person meetings, preparing briefings, and donor communications and reports.
- Support and help produce Development team’s fundraising dashboards, list building and queries and donor report preparation.
- Recommend and implement best use of Salesforce features to accomplish Development department goals, establish and enforce data management standards and controls.
- Create attributes and other system coding for the Development fundraising campaigns.
- Assist Development team with database integrity by confirming and entering donor information, donation/gift entry, donor communications and next step actions, removal of duplicate data, list clean up and maintaining updated information for varying needs.
- Work in collaboration with finance team to support regular donation reconciliation.
- Manage and track timelines and reporting requirements, working with program staff and development team to compose and submit timely reports to individual donors and advisors.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for the database software vendor, providing support for maintenance, updates, and special projects as needed.
- Assist with the project management of donor communications such fundraising campaigns, direct solicitations, stewardship, and pipeline strategies.
- Assist with project management and support execution of the bi-annual impact reports.
- Assist with drafting donor print and digital donor communications i.e. thank you notes, milestone materials and reports, cards, and support Development Director on follow-up needed for donors.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree or comparable work/life experience
- 2-3 years of non-profit fundraising or related professional experience preferred, including internships; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
- 1-2 years of experience working in databases and CRMs (Salesforce NPSP a plus)
- Experience in a climate-related non-profit is preferred but not required. Passion for Carbon Mapper’s mission is essential.
- Highly organized with excellent attention to detail and strong project management skills, with an ability to handle multiple projects and assignments with competing deadlines.
- Superb communications skills, both written and verbal, for proposals, reports, and other funder outreach.
- Experience working with project management programs (e.g. Monday.com or Notion) is a plus.
- Independent task management and execution but knows when to ask for guidance and has strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills.
- A passion for action on climate change and a commitment to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Ability to attend funder and/or internal meetings, as needed.
- Intermittent travel domestically and internationally may be required.
- Flexibility to adjust work hours to accommodate multiple time zones.
- Requires proficiency in the use of Office 365/Microsoft suite of applications, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Slack, Google, and online document sharing and calendaring.
Hours: This is a full-time exempt position.
