Position Overview:
The Manager of Legislative Policy will work with the external affairs department to raise awareness of public health issues related to the lack of access to material necessities, advance important legislation, and support state coalitions.
The manager will engage with the National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN) & Alliance for Period Supplies (APS) member programs to advance state and federal legislative efforts, encourage participation in state coalitions and research, and help prioritize federal and state laws and policies that impact access to material basic needs.
The Manager of Legislative Policy will help identify key lawmakers and policy influencers, arrange introductions with NDBN & APS members, and support and track advocacy efforts that help advance the National Diaper Bank Network and the Alliance for Period Supplies' policy and legislative priorities.
This position reports to the Director of Government Relations.
Key Responsibilities:
Supporting State Coalitions:
- Provide support and guidance to state coalitions.
- Coordinate with the Director of Research to provide state-specific data.
- Mediate conversations within coalitions to ensure diverse voices are heard.
- Assist in developing state coalition strategies.
- Monitor, manage, and archive coalition communications.
Advocacy and Policy Management:
- Research and monitor key federal and state legislation.
- Coordinate meetings with legislators and advocacy partners.
- Represent NDBN/APS externally at meetings, events, and legislative hearings.
- Manage and update legislative tracking tools.
- Support the development of model legislation and support letters.
Legislative Implementation:
- Advise NDBN/APS members on implementing pertinent legislation.
- Coordinate meetings with legislators and relevant departments.
External Communications:
- Helps to monitor and revise policy pages on NDBN's websites.
- Support the communications strategy for legislation and policy priorities.
- Represent NDBN and APS at speaking engagements and prepare talking points.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience in legislative affairs, government relations, lobbying, or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience in community outreach and managing community relations.
- Experience with advocacy and community organizing.
- Strong understanding of legislative processes and government operations.
- Excellent analytical skills for assessing legislative proposals and formulating strategies.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with lawmakers and stakeholders.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite; advanced Excel and data analysis skills preferred.
- Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced and changing environment.
- Ability to travel in the US as needed
